NEW ZEALAND SHOW JUMPER

HORSE OF THE YEAR

OLYMPIC CUP

Presented to the New Zealand Showjumper of the Year
The prestigious Olympic Cup was first contested in 1953 and won by Peter Holden aboard Starlight. The cup was donated by Mrs RS (Bessie) Fullerton-Smith.
The most prolific winner is John Cottle, with six titles to his credit. Maurice Beatson and Katie McVean have five wins apiece. Maurice had his first win in 1983 aboard Nationwide and his most recent in 2013 with My Gollywog.
In 2013 carrots were added to the cup during the presentation as historically the horses always tried to eat the fresh red roses in the cup.
